Flash fiction

In class last term (term 2), we made flash fictions. Flash fiction is a fast-paced narrative. We had to use the prompts music, chain and rose. I really enjoyed creating it but had a hard time thinking what to write about, especially trying to include the prompts. I was very happy with my writing when I had finished.

Brother

I was sitting all alone in my room one rainy day, listening to the music box my brother gave me for my 9th birthday when I started to relive that tragic day.

The day was filled with so much fun and laugher. “Ahhh!” I screamed as I went around on the roller coaster with my brother behind me. I hopped off the rollercoaster and leaped up into his arms to hug him. “This is the best birthday ever,” I cried. “Don’t ever leave me. I love you with all my heart.”

My brother slowly started to reach into our bag, within seconds he pulled out something wrapped up in wrapping paper “this is for you,” he said. “Thank you,” I cheered giving him a big hug. I gratefully took the present and started to open it. It was a music box with a rose inside of it. “I have something to give to you too,” I said. Out from my pocket, I pulled out a golden chain and a green stone. “Thank you,” my brother said. He put on the golden chain and held the green stone in his hand.

We went on one more ride. After the ride, he said he didn’t feel so good. Within seconds he nearly fell over. I tried telling him to let go of the green stone. But it was too late. He was gone. With tears running down my face, I knew my brother's mana wasn’t strong enough for the stone. As I held my brother in my arms, I carefully gave him a kiss on his head. “I’m so sorry brother,” I whispered to him.

By now the song from the music box had repeated, and my aunt had called me to go and have afternoon tea. Before I left, I noticed my brother's golden chain and green stone I got for him sitting in the music box. I grasp them and hold them close to my heart wishing he was still here.
